So I’ve just got back from my show on Radio One Mallorca and the weather is grey. That greyness pretty much sums up the mood of so many people that I know here in Magaluf. I still can’t understand how the actions of a handful of allegedly drunk youths in the street is the fault of the bars on the Punta Ballena (The Strip) and surrounding streets. The Government in the Balearic Isles enforcing closure of the entire Strip is surely screwing with the livelihoods of law abiding citizens. It’s totally over the top and disgraceful in my opinion.
I was chatting to a friend of mine earlier today about this. There’s a pub at the top of the hill on the Strip called Uncle Tom’s. It’s tiny and is frequented by elder Spanish gentlemen who pop in for a caƱa, a chat and thats about it. I used to go there early evening with one of the brothers of the owner of Chaplin’s when I was DJing there in the winter months (Yes, a long time ago) and I think I was the only Brit in the place. The owner of Uncle Tom’s hasn’t broken any laws, yet he’s forced to close. It’s unfair and unjust.
I’ve read on Facebook, so it may not be true, that there are a few of the bosses who are going to take the Balearic Government to court. That will be an interesting case to follow if it happens.
